Stephanie Lepp
Flute
Stephanie Lepp grew up in Spielberg, Germany, as the daughter of composer Gunter Lepp, where music, art, nature and creativity played a major role in her childhood.
She studied flute with Berthild auf dem Kampe, among others, and at the age of 18 became a national prize winner in the "Jugend Musiziert" competition. She subsequently studied classical flute at the Cologne University of Music with Professor Robert Winn. She continued her flute studies with Professor Mario Caroli in Strasbourg. She has been a long-time scholarship recipient of "Yehudi Menuhin - Live Music Now." In 2008, her solo improvisation "Sambirano" was nominated for the prestigious Gaudeamus Music Prize composition competition, leading to a solo performance at the legendary Paradiso in Amsterdam. This opened new doors and musical opportunities for her to pursue her own artistic path. She then spent years developing her improvisational skills from the perspective of diverse musical cultures. From 2010 to 2022, she studied the art of playing the bansuri with Dinesh Mishra. Her personal encounter with bansuri legend Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia during her active involvement in his 2017 masterclass in Bremen, and his appreciative and encouraging words, remain a great and lasting inspiration. Her active participation in numerous other masterclasses with renowned figures such as Markus Stockhausen, Jorge Pardo, Karl Berger, Randy Brecker, Trilok Gurtu, Rüdiger Oppermann, and others continually broadens her musical horizons.
Concert tours take her across Europe, to Turkey and to Georgia.
Together with Levan Andria, pianist Marko Mrdja and drummer Kurt Fuhrmann, she founded the SOUNDRISE QUARTET in 2024. She also performs in the band LEPP LIVE alongside her sister, the singer Agnes Lepp, Filip Wisniewski on jazz guitar, and Levan Andria, keeping alive the rich compositional legacy of her father, who passed away in 2021.
As a freelance soloist, flute and improvisation teacher, and composer, Stephanie Lepp follows her own artistic path and impresses with her virtuosic and expressive flute playing.
